do you think psychiatrists really helpful
here is an example : my friend lost nearly 30 pounds in less than 6 weeks(her physician couldn't find diagnose the problem so he referred her to psychiatrist) ,a smart psychiatrist diagnosed her with severe depression and suicidal tendencies (my friend cried she doesn't have depression and she is not suicidal)
but the problem turned out to be parasite which almost killed her
there are thousands of medical malpractices similar to this example
did you know medical malpractice is the third leading cause of death after cancer and heart diseases
according to me psychiatrists are just no more than wallet snatchers
but i want know everyone's answers

people dont usually wake up, until they have broken thru the illusion in some way or another, been hurt, educated, or something
then they can get a closer look at what is helpful and what isnt
most lawsuits are not 'frivolous', that is just a word to help out the big bucks medical and big pharma communities

shrinks are in the business of labeling people with mind screws and then prescribing them friggin meds that only make the pharmacuetical companies big bucks....
i go to a medical doctor who is a Doctor of Osteopathy....or D.O.-----they tend to treat people involved in sports but have a tendancy to be excellent physicians who turn to a persons activity and self understanding rather than a prescription to "fix it all".....they tend to be more homeopathic than prescription writers.....thank god

Frankly, I would fault your friend's doctor in misdiagnosing her condition -- NOT the psychiatrist! In my experience, if a medical doctor cannot diagnose and treat your condition in two visits, at the third visit he wants to refer you for a psychological evaluation!
My daughter had a similar experience as your friend. The high-priced specialist we had been referred to sent her to a psychiatrist after 2 visits. The psychiatrist found nothing wrong psychologically and sent her to an exotic-disease specialist who found a parasite she had picked up on a school mission trip to South America.
During menopause, I experienced constant severe vaginal bleeding. After 2 visits, the specialists sent me to a psychiatrist. The psychiatrist said the bleeding would go away -- and it did!
Don't fault the psychiatrists. They are just playing the hand they are dealt. It's the medical doctors
that are the goofs! (And yes, I know that psychiatrists are MDs! But the doctors who are curing the rest of the body are at fault here!)

Here the fault lies with her regular Dr who sent her to a psychiatrist....... in this case the psychiatrist has to assume that the medical doctor has done his job and has ruled her to be "physically healthy". It was her regular doctor who was negligent in not diagnosing the parasite and assuming it was a psychiatric issue.................... The psychiatrist was not at fault.
