You can't get any money for medical malpractice for negligence. You might even get sued for it.

In many jurisdictions, recovery for "pain and suffering" are capped. You can nearly always make a recovery for costs associated with treatment required as a result of the malpractice.
If you this that a provider has harmed you, consult an attorney. The consultation should be at no cost to you.
If you are the perpetrator of the malpractice, then you won't get anything, but could lose everything including your license.

It dends where you are. In Califonria, for example, there is a damages cap on non-economic damages for medical malpractice cases. See Cal. Civ. Code § 3333.2.
Non-economic damages, defined as compensation for pain, suffering, inconvenience, physical impairment, disfigurement, and other non-pecuniary injury, are limited to $ 250,000. Id.
The cap applies whether the case is for injury or death, and it allows only one $ 250,000 recovery in a wrongful death case. Yates v. Pollock, 194 Cal. App. 3d 195, 239 Cal. Rptr. 383 (1987).
There is authority, however, for allowing separate caps for the patient and a spouse claiming loss of consortium. Atkins v. Strayhorn, 223 Cal. App. 3d 1380, 273 Cal. Rptr. 231 (1990).

While most cases are less, in theory, sich as a brain damaged bady, or death of a high earner who leave a family, it could be 10's of millions of dollars.
