With the health crisis, rising cost of malpractice insurance, and large cost of medical school, is it crazy to still want to be a doctor in the United States?

What are some other fields or careers that are considered more secure?

Mr. Right
No, if you want to help people, that's great!

The medical field is actually one of the most secure fields to have a career in, even during a recession.

Every career comes with its share of risks, if its your passion go for it.

I went through the worrying stage of the medical field and I was in a slump. However, I realized that being a doctor is all I want to be in life.

Therefore, yes, it is a crazy decision in today's day and age, but for me, it is the right decision, lol.

The most secure jobs are government jobs and medical careers...other than government jobs and medical careers, there is not much else to rely on.

I hope this helps!

Think about dentistry.

Nothing is secure today - and being a doctor is a way to have a job for life: people will always need healthcare. But if that's the only reason you're thinking of being a doctor, don't - do what you have a passion for instead. Being a doctor is a vocation, not just a job.

Wanting to help people is not crazy, especially in todays day and age. Loans can be repaid, insurance can be tolerated if what you do makes you feel like you're doing something positive with your life. The world needs more people who care about the well-being of others instead of what's in the bank.

It absolutely is not. Both of my parents are doctors, and my older sister is one. My parents and sister both absolutely adore it. My dad is neurosurgeon, and my mom is an OB/GYN. They both love it. The schooling is very challenging, but, really, all you have to do it just study very hard and memorize everything. It's definitely worth it for all the money and glory you get.

Also, with being a doctor, you get to help save people's life! Which, in itself is a reward. It's a really rewarding occupation. Just remember, anything is possible if you just set your goal.

Here I am a sophomore in high school, trying to get ready for college and possibly med-school. I really can't wait! If I, or my parents, can do it, anyone can.

With today's economic struggles, it is DEFINITELY worth it to be a doctor. Health care is the one profession where there will be always open positions. ALWAYS. Especially doctors, because being a doctor requires the most schooling. It is worth it without a doubt. Not only would you have a job, but you would be making more money than pretty much anyone you know.

It is DEFINITELY worth it.
