In the medical field what is the difference between malpractice insurance and liability insurance?

Malpractice is a TYPE of liability. A subset, if you will, like an arm is a subset of a human body.

I think what you're asking, is what is different about what they cover. A general liability policy is going to cover things like slip and fall in the office, or advertising injury. Or a bad papercut that someone gets from your business card, or some such.

Malpractice is professional liability - if someone sues you for a misdiagnosis, or you amputated the wrong arm, prescribe the wrong medication, etc.
