malpractice insurance!?

i am a medical student and i am going to do elective in McMaster University, Hamilton, ON, Canada
they asked me to get a medical malpractice insurance or medical liability insurance for a student
from where can i get this insurance ?
i told the office there in mcmaster that i dont have it and i couldnt get it from the insurance company around it and they gave me annual insurance and its very expenisive
i just need it for 6 weeks
any 1 can help please =(

You should ask in your school. You can't buy malpractice, as a student, privately, from insurance.

I'm afraid you're a victim of the US's high medical malpractice costs. Most university schemes outside of the US exclude American students.

1st have you contacted the insurer yourself to expl;ain you only want 6 weeks cover... it won't be 6/52nds of the annual premium.... but I'm surprised they will only do annual cover.

If not;

The university of Toronto does arrange cover for it's US students for around $ 500, might be worth giving them a call to see who they use (416) 978-7484.

The other option is to approach a specialist canadian broker. I've attached a link for one I know of.... this isn't a recomendation, just I know they do a lot of medmal and if they can't help (which they possibly won't be able to as this is very niche stuff) they may well know who can. Always worth an email to ask.
