Tips: Clinical negligence compensation.?

My father died due to the negligence of the G.P.We have solicitors and they said the the g.p. was definitely to blame,so we are just waiting for finalization of their enquiries etc.My father was 60,still working (as a postman) and in very good health,he was the main breadwinner and my mothers standard of life etc has completely changed. She depends on her pension and disability benefits etc.
What i would like to know is,what is a reasonable sum to accept for compensation.Baring in mind the grief and loss of my father etc,the loss of earnings he would of made from continuing working until he retired at 65 etc.Any ideas please.
I do not know if this helps but my father earned £13,000-£14,000 year there abouts.

Calculate his salary for the next five years. Then double the last year (that is what insurances usually pay, double a one year salary comp.). Then count what he would have made in retirement, pension, etc. So, I would estimate $ 300 000 to $ 500 000

I agree that figuring his salary and benefits through retirement age is a good start. If it is possible to sue for punitive damages, a good 50,000 pounds is something to shoot for.
Good luck!
