i went to the doctor's office a few days ago because the last time i had my blood pressure checked it was extremely high, so i wanted to get something for it. when i finally got in a room, the nurse checked my b.p. and said that it was really high. the doc came in and checked my b.p. again and claimed that there wasn't anything wrong with it and it wasn't high. i told him that i would feel better if he would give me blood pressure pills but he refused and made a follow up appointment for a month later. every day since i went to the doctor (4 days ago) i've had my blood pressure checked at the hospital and it's been around 160-170/100-120. that isn't normal, and i was wondering if there was any way i could sue for negligence or malpractice, or would something actually have to happen to me?

Most likely something would have actually had to have happened to you.If i was the opposition's lawyer, I would note that you repeatedly left unsatisfied and still did not switch doctors because you WANTED your health to deteriorate to the point where you could sue.
Seriously though, why didn't you just go to another doctor?

No because you have to have high blood pressure for more than one appointment. You may have been really nervous and by the time the doc came bp lowered. But if you have the results documented take them to doc. Sounds like you need meds. If he doesn't give you something then find a new doc. Sometimes doc like to wait and see if something is high a month or so later(ex. I had high cholestrol and triglycerides and instead of doc giving meds he wants to see if it is lowered in a month) Sometimes they will give you a special diet and exercise program to see if that will lower something. Some docs just aren't all about meds they want to try natural fixes. But definiately take your results and present to doc. If he chooses not to give med then TAKE results to a new doc. Good Luck

Ok obviously one of them is reading it wrong. yes 160-170 should be treated but 100-120 is perfectly normal. The doctor probably read your blood pressure correctly where as most nurses can't. I take mine weekly and I went to the doctor yesterday and they said mine was 130. I was obviously hesitant because mine is usually in the low 120's so I had the doctor do it and it was actually 122. So no you cannot sue him for doing his job correctly. You don't need blood pressure medication you need to eat healthy and exercise.

You're going to trust the opinion of an LPN over that of a medical doctor with 8+ years of schooling and experience under his belt? Who says that your blood pressure can't rapidly decrease after your first reading when sitting motionless in an exam room for several minutes. Find another way of earning extra cash because obviously you don't know anything about medicine or you'd be the one wearing the white coat.
