I have a malpractice lawsuit....do i add it to my income taxes.

If you are the beneficiary of a court award, winning a malpractice lawsuit, you need to characterize the income

Compensation for "personal physical injury" or "emotional distress" is not income and should not be reported. Punitive damages ARE income.
