in medical malpractice cases

In all cases not just malpractice cases. I think it is disgusting that tragedy is rewarded. I think it is interesting to look at rewards. There should be a maximum pain and suffering award. Pain and suffering are a part of life. Not a ticket to easy street

If I were in charge of making the laws (I'm not, BTW), I would cap pain and suffering and punitive damages to not more than 10 times actual damages. Unless there were extraordinary circumstances.

That amount I think is fair to all parties.

The amount that can be awarded by Workmen's Compensation for accidents that happen in the workplace is limited. I see no reason there should not be caps for medical malpractice, although not necessarily the same caps.

Other Torts, such as traffic accidents, maybe not. With Workmen's Compensation, you have a voluntary relationship of mutual benefit that preceded an unintended injury. With Medical Malpractice, you have the same thing, although the relationship is a bit different.

I'd have no problem with sensible caps.
