Republicans keep claiming that if we eliminate state rules on health insurance(ie allow people to buy across state lines), reform medical malpractice, and allow small business to buy insurance together that this will result in fixing all of the problems of health care.
How?
How will doing just those three cover preexisting conditions?
How will that stop health insurance companies from delaying health care that could save a critically ill person?
How will it help the problems that aren't being addressed?
Steve
They won't. Well, they will prevent insurers from simply telling people that they can't buy insurance because of a pre-existing condition, but they won't prevent the insurer from coming up with a premium that is prohibitively expensive as to make it impossible for the person to afford the insurance.
Fur God's Sake, OMG
People with any pre-existing condition should be given a plane ticket to England.
No worries, problem solved.
Viking
By allowing insurance companies to cross state lines, that increases competition. Allowing preexisting condition would be part of that competition. Simple. Why do the Democrats want to just have the governmen run things?
Herb
I do think those are great ideas. They should be coupled with insurance companies delaying health care for the critically ill, and they should cover those with prexisting conditions.
To take it a step further, offer some sort of Cobra Subsidy (NY has it) that acts as unemployment to keep people covered while they're in between jobs.
That way, ER's can be free from all the uninsured, hospitals will get money from everybody and therefore, don't have to charge the insurance companies huge sums of money. The insurance companies will get more business, make a profit and still provide excellent coverage. Win...Win...Win!!!

That's just it; the issue is primarily not about insurance but about accessibility of healthcare since the advances in medicine are not available to persons based on their incomes.
Persons with pre-existing conditions require affordable access, not necessarily insurance.

How will the dem bill H.R. 3200 fix all of these issues?
When did access to healthcare become a right versus a privilege?
