i was driving to work at 3:30 in the morning and a city cop ran a red light. it totaled my car (the whole front end was smashed) and only damaged his back drivers side door. the cop was rude and accusing the sec he jumped out of the car...i stayed calm (and shocked) but all the police were dead set it was my fault...even issued me a ticket for running the light. my car was towed awayin 20 min of the crash and i was home in 40 min.( there was NO traffic..why the urgency?) oh and i should mention that i was only asked if i was ok by the ambulance driver and was ignored by the police except for them to tell me they needed to know where to take my car and how to pay the ticket and ask if i was drinking and what was i thinking? talk about being humiliated! after i demanded a review of the dash cam...it took several hours for someone at the station to call me and tell me that it was in fact the officers fault. i suffered back and neck pain, migraines, lost work for almost 2 weeks, cat scan, dr.s visits, physical therapy, neurologist, and painful shots in my neck. am i wrong to sue the city for negligence, pain and suffering, and medical bills? let me just reitterate that when i say i was humiliated, i honestly mean every cop in town..city, state, and county had to have stopped by, were told that i just blew thru the red light..laughed at me, laughed at the damage to my car..gave me a breathalizer..and allowed the officer involved to stand 5-6 feet away glaring at me while i gave my statement.

Holy shit, that is exactly the type of law enforcement causing more problems in todays already messed up society. Laughing at your 'false claim', and accusing you before they even checked out the camera. I would speak to a lawyer before you actually sue anyone. Tell them exactly what happened, and the damages that were caused. You should be entitled for something. Good luck.

DON
You should sue the officer that caused the accident in civil court as well as the department and the city. Also you never are required to take a breath-a-lyzer regardless of what the cops tell you.

It's called the 'wall of blue'. Did you think that the police officer driver and all his police officer were friends were going to give you sympathy and say it was a terrible accident and everyone is sorry? Forget it! The police don't admit it but they all have a built-up notion that they're above the law. That's why he went through a light at 3:00 in the morning. And all his buddies were there to support him and shed light on the fact that you were probably in the wrong. You're only big mistake was to not go to the hospital. You should have gone to the hospital. The hospital staff would have taken your statement as to what happened, without influence of police officers to change or 'inhance the story'. So now you're without a car, have to pay a ticket, and whatever. And the police officer is probably home on sick leave, drawing a full salary. That's life in the big city > and it sure does suck. Sorry for your trouble.

OMFG i would do worse... ok yes you should, if you have to pay for those bills then you are getting the worst deal imaginable, you should or should have sued, it is your right (or should be), and it should be respected that you ask for such compensation, because even the humiliation is over-bearing so i say do it, but do what you feel is right... hope i helped ;D

Hire a lawyer and file a massive lawsuit against the Police Department for all wrongdoing. Prove to them you count, make an example because you know they'd do the same to you.
