Is it legal for anyone including an attorney to pull your medical and financial records without your signature or authorization for this discovery?

depends on the prior relationship with the claimant.
Ex: If the claimant is a health insurance company and you their client, you gave authorization when you applied.
Ex: If the claimant derives their claim from someone who had such authority [physicians' insurance company which stands in the place of the physician who had such authority], you gave consent.
AND, there is a lot of lying going on in civil cases -- they bluff to get you to settle on favorable terms. If it goes to court and they did illegally do as you think they did, your attorney will ask the judge to exclude both the illegally obtained material AND anything they found out because they knew it.
