My son was born at term almost 9 lb. I took breastfeeding class at the hospital where I delivered and followed class instructor's advice not to supplement for the first 2 days. During first 2 days I was also visited by hospital's lactation consultant who repeated the same advice. I asked nurses at the hospital that my son spends an hour on each breast sucking eagerly and then screams in vain. I was told it's ok. On the morning of day 3 my son got severe fever and was taken to NICU, given IV, antibiotics, culture was taken from his spine. I can't tell you how devastating that was. It turned out that my son simply got dehydrated. If he was suplemented that woud't happen. Also someone in the nurserry should have noted no wet pampers and sunked soft spot. Now I have crazy bills from hispital, pathologists and pediatricians (25% PPO conins) What can I do? Can I sue the hospital? I don't seek any prifit - I just don't want to be financially responsible for hospital's neglegence.

Can you prove beyond a shadow of a doubt what you are alleging?
Because if you have no proof, an attorney can't help you win a case.

Yes, it is possible. Their advise may not necessarily be wrong though. I don't know enough about babies, but it may be the case that for normal babies this advice applies but if they have some sort of condition then this advice shouldn't be given.
You mentioned some symptoms they should have noticed. If this is the case you may have a malpractice claim based on misdiagnosis. This would all depend on whether or not a minimally competent doc, or nurse would have detected this. Seek out a good civil attorney that specializes in medical malpractice. Typically the consultation is free and since they deal with this sort of thing all the time they can give you a pretty good idea if you have a case or not.
For the record, you do not have to prove your claim beyond a reasonable doubt, that is for criminal matters. The burden of proof is much lower in civil cases and typically these sorts of claims never go to trial anyway. If you have a strong case the hospital's insurance company will settle with you. Seek out the consultation and the attorney will explain it all to you.
