I was in a car accident in which a police officer ran a stop sign and caused the wreck. He was at fault and cited. My truck was totaled and i suffered minor injuries and had to go through a week of physical therapy in which i was out of work. With all this said should i settle out of court or file a lawsuit for negligence? How much might i get if i settled out of court?

You should sue. Being that the wreck caused you to be out of work etc. Go get a personal injury lawyer! My cousing got into a wreck the same way in which the other person was at fault he sued because he was out of work as well anyways he got back 17,000 dollars. Good Luck

You need a personal injury lawyer. What the settlement is depends on the total amount of your medical bills, lost wages, etc, and almost impossible to predetermine. Your attorney would be the one to give you the best advice on whether to settle out of court.

Go to three lawyers and ask what they think they could get. Ignore the highest. Average the other two. Cut that in half because they are lying. Then deduct one third more for their cut. Then assign a value to speed. If you get offered that much, accept it. If not, go back to one of the lawyers and hire him to do the job.

It does not matter which way you go, as long as all of your medical bills are taken care of and your truck is replaced and you are compensated for your injuries and time missed at work and/or school and still have extra money to purchase a home.

Sue for negligence why? Isn't his insurance paying for everything? Perhaps you need to stop trying to get rich just because it was a cop. It may be hard to accept but cops are people too, just be glad he got cited.
