I went to the hospital solely because I was homeless and had no where to go, I thought it was a good idea, until they turned my religious beliefs and interests against me. I am a neo-pagan, deeply interested in parapsychology, ghost hunting, magic, and the occult.
They went through the standard qeustions and asked me if I was psychic. I relplied I think everyone has a sixth sense.
They wrote in my record that I believe that I have psychic powers.
They asked me if I believe in telepathy. I said it could be a possibility that it exists, but I do not believe I have the ability myself, there has been serious studies on the matter, both by parapsychologists and the government ie: remote viewing
They wrote down in my record that I believe I have telepathy.
I figured while I was there I might be able to hash out problems of past abuse. I told my psychiatrist that I had been abused as a child. She told me I had a thought disorder and that it never happened.
I was committed, labeled as "psychotic" and forced to take debilitating psychotics, since then my life has been in shambles. I have had severe personal suffering over what has happened, the medication made me gain 40 pounds, made me lose my lack of motivation, and my personal identity.
I now have to be supervised around my children, because I am seen as a threat, and "psychotic."
Child protection did get involved, because my kids needed a place to go while I was in the hospital. And now they are letting my children stay with the person who abused me, and not listening to my cries, all because my psychiatrist stated that it was a thought disorder.
My parents are now trying to take my children away from me, because they are horrible people, and no one is taking me seriously, all because I have a mental health record now claiming that I am psychotic and some sort of threat to society.
So, I am thinking about sueing over the damage done, and I wanted to ask you guys if this seems like a good reason to go after a lawsuit. it is 8 now, so I will be calling some lawyers and asking them as well, but I want your opinions, please.

shouldn't have went to the hospital in the first place.
Sadly some in patient hospitalization sedate people. Sounds like you might have a case. Call lawyers and get that first free interview. Get a few opinions. Sorry, I just read that last part and sound like you are going to do that. Good.
I don't think you have a case about the sedation while in patient. But you should have one having your children taken from you. Oddly enough, with that diagnosis, I'm surprised that they let you out period.
Good luck
Colin
Hell yeah. Sue those a-holes. There is such a thing as freedom of religion and belief isnt there? Whenever medical staff are trying to diagnose someone they have to take the persons word for things. They cant just tell you what to do and write false information about you. I would definatly sue. If your homeless though how are you going to pay for a lawyer?
Feazle
SUE THEM!!! THIS IS COMPLETELY OUT OF LINE!!! I can't believe that your psychiatrist is adequately qualified, and even so it sounds like they are one of those selfish and callous brainiacs who are only in mental health profession for the money....they aren't all like that, but this one sure as hell sounds like it...Your psychiatrist is the nutcase for not listening to you properly-not you.
D.D
the problem with suing for damages, is that they all follow the leader and tend to think the same way.
I had to think for awhile to know how to answer this, and i am still not sure how to.
Most people believe in these things to some degree, and to have someone say that they didnt believe your childhood abuse is really pathetic........
What has/is happening to you is abuse in my opinion.
One of the first lesssons to learn is who to trust, how much , and how does another person think or what have they been taught.
Now you need some psychiatrists that will counter this 'insantity ' thing, thought disorder, and that may not be easy to find.
You are going to have to do your research and find someone trained in diangosiing that does allow for certain beliefs like yours...........to counter the others claims.
Some attorneys may know others, and you can ask them. These would be considered really good attorneys taylorring.com wmlawyers.com , or find plaintiff attorneys at bestlawyers.com.....or maybe better in your situation, talk to the ACLU and consumer rights lawyers......idk....you should also ask large religous orgs who their attorneys are .....you might even consider ASKING a defense attorney (find a larger firm), what therapists they use to evaluate their clients, and if they know of any that believe the occult , telepathy, psychic and other things are within the normal range..........remember the medical profession has been doing this a long time and pretty much have their routines down when someone sues.........they would say you are suing due to your disorder ........and trash you even more.
Since they all play follow the leader, it may be good for you to not tell your diagnosing doctors who they are and what they said in advance of the diagnosis.
It is my opinion you have been very harmed, something you wont shake most likely in this life time, but you can try by countering it.
When ever you have a chance to specifically speak out against the mental health system the way it is, please do that...........this sight might be helpful, idk mindfreedom.org
What i am saying is the system is in place, and a lot of people have been harmed by it.......but the mental health system, along with the lawyers (who dont claim to know 'mental health issues and rely on the 'professionals), may not exhonorate you and your integrity of mind or expansiveness in belief and thought.
It seems you do have grounds based on religous harassment and abuse, since this subject has been much much much debated among the religions and religious types that psychiatry has been calling /labeling crazy for years.
Especially certain religions , like pentacostal, hindu, buddhism, psychics, spiritists, etc ,and the like that know other than ordinary views of life and mental health are common.
I also think psychiatry is holding the growth of the world back with tsome of their views, and have harmed a lot of people.
On the other hand, they justify it in many ways.
So, I think you should do a lot of research, find doctors who are more open minded and not as stuck in the traditionsalist way of diagnosing, before you do anything else, and find attorneys who will listen and use doctors who will not just keep trashing you.
You may start with talking to psychics who have had legal involvment, maybe allison dubois and her resources, or people like that. They may know doctors and lawyers also. idk
Maybe you should start your own organization to fight all of this, we sure need it.
Many people would know how you feel, and have been there, but the medical profession has a lot of money and are very good at trashing people, regardlss of what they say.
YOu sound sane to me.
If you find any really good resources , I'd like to hear about them.
best wishes
PS you can sue your abusers and all of them , i just dont know how successful it will be.......I hope it is for your sake.... Didnt mean for this to be this long, I just woke up and am having a difficult time with this subject .

Coming from a legal background (in Aust though) I can say that you would not have much chance of succeeding for malpractice at least. You would need to be able to prove that you were not psychotic at the time - something that will now be almost impossible to do. As for child protection becoming involved, I have been hospitalised in a psych ward myself for psychotic episodes & it is something over here that is mandatory report issue - that is my drs have no choice but to report it & any action that is taken by DHS is up to them. I know that usually they speak quite in depth to the hospital staff involved to make assessments.
As for your children being put with your abuser etc, that is possible something you would have legal recourse over - given that control of your children has been taken out of your hands & they have not been placed in a safe place. You would need to go through an assessment again in order to show that you don't have a thought disorder & are not a risk to anyone which solicitors will be able to assist you with.
Let it be a lesson to you - it is never a good idea to go to a hospital because you have nowhere to stay, especially if you have chldren & don't want it reported to child protection that you are unable to provide a roof over your children's head - you have to take some responsibility for the situation yourself. I know that sounds really harsh & I know how hard it is - the past couple of months I have been given a notice to vacate my house because of rental arrears that I am still paying off, have had my electricity disconnected & have been struggling to put food on the table for my son & I so I know it isn't easy & that you can so easily get desparate enough to do anything - please don't take it as a dig at you - only that a hospital is not a safe haven)
