I have a medical bill that was persued by a lawyer, I've been paying 170.00 since august of 2010. The bill was "created/rendered" in 2006, and I was only able to make very small pyments at that time. Can I clain the 170.00 I paid from august to december on my taxes?

If you actually made a cash or check payment during calendar year 2010, you can claim any cash payment that was actually made during the calendar year as a medical expense.

In order to claim medical expenses, they have to be over a certain percentage of your income so it would depend on your income.

Medical deduction is itemized deduction, which is reported on schedule A (Form 1040). You will take deduction only if your itemized deductions are more than your standard deduction..You can deduct the expenses that are more than 7.5% of your adjusted gross income (Form 1040, line 38).
