This talk by Dr Jonathan Back is a whirlwind tour of different types of human error, the resilient strategies we use to reduce the likelihood of error, and what we can do with device design to prevent error. This story is illustrated with examples that we can relate to in our everyday lives. To Err is Human. People make mistakes all the time in their everyday lives. But this isn't good enough when it comes to important contexts like healthcare. This film was made as part of the CHI+MED (Computer-Human Interaction in Medicine) project. This multidisciplinary project aims to improve the safety of interactive (programmable) medical devices, such as infusion pumps. By understanding more about device design and human factors, medical errors can be reduced thus saving lives. CH+MED is funded by EPSRC grant EP/G059063/1. www.chi-med.ac.uk This clip was taken from "Man-Machine Nightmares: Chaos Buttons, Human Error and Healthcare". chi-med.posterous.com
