My husband has been incarcerated for a week now. He had an urgent referral and apointment to a neurologist when he went in. The jail refused to transport him there. I had all his medical records and mental health records faxed to the medical department. They assured me he would see their Doctor on Thursday and that THEIR Dr would then determine whether or not he needed to see a neurologist. This after another physician AND the neurologist were very concerned about his condition and scheduled an emergency MRI and CAT scan, which he has yet to receive. It is now Monday night, he didn't see the DR on Thursday, hasn't received any medical care yet, or mental health care. When I saw him on Friday I got scared to death over his mental state because he seemed almost suicidal. I've contacted the medical department, who refuses to talk to me now, and the jail, who hasn't responded yet. I'm worried, what else can I do?
Ok, thanks. I'm still trying to find an attorney who will help me. He's in jail for back child support. I accidentally got pregnant and his ex flipped out over it and that's when this all started. They'd been working out payments through verbal agreement and everything was fine until she found out I was pregnant. I had been telling him to go back to court and file for a reduction, but he didn't and this is what happened. Now our baby is due in 7 weeks, he has no release date, and I'm going crazy!!! Not to mention missing my husband of 7 years like crazy, out of a job, behind on rent, and no help in sight.
Sorry, venting. Thanks again for the input.

It is not negligence unless something actually happens to him. I am sure they have a psych area of the jail where they can keep him for observation. Tell the jail you want him on suicide watch.

have his lawyer deal with it . he may file a writ with a judge to force the dr to visit ur husband. or this could be a defense plan on ur husbands part, if he cant aid his lawyer, he may b declared unfit to stand trial for the crime.

the system is always screwed up, never depend on an honest answer. speak to who ever is in charge. nobody really cares about inmates, and its just a job to people. seek a lawyer!!!

contact an attorney to see what your options are.

You should be talking to his lawyer, not the jail directly. And, no you cannot sue the jail. You would be sueing either the city or county or state, whoever runs the jail. See an attorney.
I will tell you that there is a case going on right here in Wichita, Kansas, the same type of thing, but it was at a work release center. The man had medical problems, was doing poorly, asked and asked for help, would have died anyway, but was not given medical care or transported so he died after a lot of pain and suffering. I am sorry but cannot remember if it is solved or not, but several people got fired over it, and one has tried to get his job back with no luck. So, people are getting into trouble.
