Complex discovery issues, as well as busy court schedules.

It takes a couple months just to handle the initial pleadings, then a year or two (minimum) to resolve discovery, then a few months of preliminary hearings and status conferences.

The longer the lawyers can drag it out the more billable hours ($ $ $ ) they make. Also, medical testimony can be very involved and complex for the average jury to understand.

Because doctors stick together. Its hard to find one who will say that another did any wrong doing especially one from the same office or hospital. Secondly, insurance companies like receiving checks not writing them and since they have more funds available than most people, they try to financially exhaust you into giving up. Don't give up. Make them pay!

It has to do with lawyers and money. The longer and more detailed it gets, the more money they make. Also these cases usually involve corporations who have money to spend.
