AP Poll: Support for curbs on malpractice lawsuits
WASHINGTON – Most Americans want Congress to deal with malpractice lawsuits driving up the cost of medical care, says an Associated Press poll.
Yet Democrats are reluctant to press forward on an issue that would upset a valuable political constituency — trial lawyers — even if President Barack Obama says he's open to changes.
The AP poll found that 54 percent of Americans favor making it harder to sue doctors and hospitals for mistakes taking care of patients, while 32 percent are opposed. The rest are undecided or don't know.
Support for limits on malpractice lawsuits cuts across political lines, with 58 percent of independents and 61 percent of Republicans in favor. Democrats are more divided. Still, 47 percent said they favor making it harder to sue, while 37 percent are opposed.
The survey was conducted by Stanford University with the nonprofit Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

U.S. Veteran:
I guess you didn't know that the democrats have the majority in BOTH houses of congress, or that the republicans have been shut out of ALL negotiations concerning the "health care bill".
guru:
What is the reason for all the "unnecessary testing"? Could it be the fear of a malpractice law suit? People like you are amazing. You support frivolous lawsuits for "malpractice" AND want to "sue their pants off" for performing extra test to protect themselves. BTW, how are you going to feel when the government controls ALL the health insurance and you CAN'T sue them for denial of treatment?
Mr. Wolf:
I personally don't give much credence to polls, since you can pretty much get whatever answer you want by the way you word the question. My point is that the Dems make a big issue of "the will of the people" when it suits them, why not now. The "health care reform" bills now before Congress do little or nothing to address the actual cost of medical care. If you control the cost of the actual care, the cost of insurance will go down.

Soon Mammograms will be denied ! http://www.center4research.org/wmnshlth/2009/regular-mammograms.html
Methinks?
because of the love of filthy lucre (money)
Lucre, from the Lat. lucrum, meaning gain in terms of money or wealth.
Look up lucre in Wiktionary, the free dictionary.
Often it is used in a negative, as in the phrase "not given to filthy lucre" from the Bible 1 Timothy 3:3.
From this, the term "filthy" became slang for money. [1]
Mr. Wolf
I bet you want our representatives to only vote by poll results when you like the poll results.
NO BO!!
They can ALWAYS be identified as the ones that think they know whats best for you!

Unnecessary tests ARE medical malpractice. Sue the pants off of them.

It is about gaining and keeping power over the people. It now has nothing to do with doing what the people want. Obviously we no longer have a "representative form of government".

Democrats don't care about the "will of the people" unless it benefits them.
They know better than the "little people". They know better how to spend your money and bankrupt your grandchildren.
They're all about self preservation of their political power and wealth redistribution, to maintain that power
One thing that bothers me, is the arrogance of some of these people. They don't read bills, but just vote for them. If you've seen some of the House members speak, I have some serious reservations as to whether they actually "CAN" read.

The "Will of the People" is only cited when it follows their agenda. Otherwise, it is ignored. If the People shout too loud, they are labeled as potential terrorists.
Also it doesn't help that our nation is now run by lawyers and first and foremost they take of their own..

Nobody is stopping the greedy Republicans from going out and doing something on their own instead of always whining for the Democrats to do everything, or are they all as dumb as that Palin Chick is, and can't figure out how to write up a bill and present it to Congress?
