Chemistry, mathematics, biology.... I can see that verbal reasoning is on the test, but what kind of medical test tests you on your verbal capabilities -- something that does not require formal education? This raises the question - how is mathematics ( I picked this for a reason) used on the job if you need it - especially statistics e.g.?

The MCAT has nothing to do with your future career as a physician. It is more designed to test your ability to process information and whether or not you will succeed in med school.

Having a basic understanding of statistics is vital when evaluating the validity of scientific research. This is something that the lay media completely ignore when they report on medical studies. Physicians need to be a little more critical, as these studies may impact patient care and safety.
We don't neglect sciences. They are the foundation for understanding what we do every day.
