Why has Obama sided with the trial lawyers to prevent any kind of tort reform?

Did their millions in donations to his campaign affect his opinion on tort reform?
Un needed tests are ran all the time and I am sure that adds up to a lot more than 1%

Impossible to determine.

It's not just the cost of care, the cost of trials and the cost of the judgments. You also have to add the costs of setting different standards because of the fear of being sued, and the cost to patients of LOST care that doctors would rather not take responsibility for.

Lawyers are not the problem bad doctors cutting cost for profit are the problem.

If doctors weren't negligent, the exact cost would be zero.

This is the elephant in the room that no one sees. Rich class ripoff legal industry is the hub of working class oppression.

If your spouse is suckered and files for divorce, be sure to hire a lawyer.

Well, this is possible. But I think tort reform is a small piece of a huge puzzle. Currently I think he is trying to attack the large portion and then work the single issues at a later date. But you gotta think if dealing with this is causing this much noise could you imagine what will happen if or when he decides to address this issue?

"How much does the cost of malpractice insurance and lawsuits add to the cost of our health care?"

Less than 1% of ours costs are a result of malpractice lawsuits.

"Did their millions in donations to his campaign affect his opinion on tort reform?"

I think his opinion is based on the fact that if you want the government to say how much a person can make from malpractice lawsuits, then why not also have the government say what the maximum price for gasoline and prescription drugs can be too?

And here's another surprising fact, States that have tort reform laws on the books don't have lower medical costs than States that don't.

You said it. Millions and millions. that we could of had for health care.. HA HAH HAH

Several states have reformed medical malpractice. Texas and California for example already have strict malpractice reform. Those states don't have lower health care costs. Studies on the subject haven't found a basis for medical malpractice reform regarding costs. Generally areas that have tightened their administrative practices are more responsible for reducing malpractice costs than legal changes have.

The amount of savings from medical malpractice is less than one percent. Malpractice isn't the sole reason doctors run extra tests.

Interestingly medical malpractice is one place where the "free market" has better solutions than the government does.

Direct payouts in med malpractice cases is less than 1%, but if you add in costs, extra testing by doctors and hospitals, doctors leaving the field, and other things it's more like 5% or more, and could be higher. Difficult to itemize but many people have ideas of what other behaviors MM lawsuits or threats of lawsuits create.
