My personal information was compromised due to a company's negligence. Do I have a legitimate lawsuit?
I would appreciate some expert opinions. Lawyers preferred.
I lost my job and filed for unemployment. Weeks later, I received a letter from a church that they had found my paperwork on the floor on their church grounds and they thought it was important.
The letter contained my Unemployment claim paperwork from the NYS Dept Of Labor to my previous employer asking them to verify my claim. The paperwork had my address, social security number and how much I would be receiving.
I am appalled that so much confidential information was just handled so poorly. Also, I can only imagine who else had access to this info and also how did my information travel from my previous employer to the church grounds.
Your thoughts, please.

If there wasn't any damage related to the loss of paperwork you don't really have a lawsuit; it's a mishandling of paper work, but not grounds for a valid lawsuit.
