The ideas seem to make sense, but they could be enacted right away. There is no need for them just to be an attachment to another bill. Why wait? I think the fraud prevention idea is a little weak. Much of the fraud happens within the government and by ordering supplies through Medicare--not as a patient is seeing a doctor. It is from fake patients and padded bills.
Here are the ideas:
sending investigators disguised as patients to uncover fraud and waste; expanding medical malpractice reform pilot programs; increasing payments to Medicaid providers and expanding the use of health savings accounts.
I find the last one interesting, because the current health care bills propose to limit the tax benefits of health savings accounts.
He also agreed with McCain that a special deal for Florida should be removed. What about CT, LA, NE, & MA? Wouldn't it make more sense just to tackle these four right away than muddle through these 2,000 page monsters filled with special local goodies?
tehabwa, obviously with 2,000+ pages there are going to be more things in there than special deals. Mainly, the Democrats who voted for it admitted to not reading it. There are a lot of items in there about taking from one group to give to another. THAT DOES NOT LOWER THE OVERALL COST!!! Do you realize that extra procedures due to fear of lawsuits with uncapped punitive damages cost more than the whole bill? No, because you have allowed yourself to be brainwashed. Don't just read the bill, use game theory to predict actions of all involved parties. Fraud in Government run health care is at 20% versus 1% for private sector fraud. If we disallow differences in premiums for smokers versus non-smokers, who is providing the subsidy? I am because I take care of myself. I don't want to. The Republican ideas reduce overall costs. That's why Obama has changed his mind!!!

That's not how it works....Republicans want to be in power, even when they aren't in power

"sending investigators disguised as patients to uncover fraud and waste"......LOLOLOLOL
How about asking citizens to turn in suspected fraud. My daughter gave birth very quickly in her labor room bed and her hospital billed for the delivery room, which was not used. When she called the hospital to question this billing she was told not to worry that her insurance company would pick up the tab. So, she called her insurance company to report this fraud.
This happens all the time.

Because the Republican ideas don't actually solve the biggest problems -- that's why Republicans WANT them; they'd do anything to prevent our solving any of our problems.
The Republican ideas do almost nothing to curb cost increases, which are crushing us. And they do nothing to prevent insurers from dropping people the moment they need medical treatment. AND they leave most of those currently uninsured still without access to medical care.
You seem to assume that ALL the Dem provisions are special deals for specific states. I guess you didn't follow the news at all during the whole time the bills were going through their houses of Congress.
Reform that goes 1% toward solving the problem just doesn't really help. If costs ocontinue doubling every few years, more people loose insurance every year, and more people die from lack of health care every year -- those are the things we need to actually do something about.
Banker
just like kids eat the green beans to get dessert, the Dems will live with small Repub suggestions.
Just let them suggest TORT Reform and watch the smiles turn upside down.
