I was just wondering how Obama's Health Care bill will affect the salary of doctors. I was thinking about applying to medical school this summer but I have been hearing that a doctors salary is gonna be cut significantly. On top of that, student loans and malpractice insurance is already insane. On top of how many years I have to go to school and how hard it will be, I would much rather put my efforts into something if this is the case. I have heard from a variety of people including medical students and doctors who told me to switch to another profession. With how much you get paid and are required to payback, its not worth it anymore. They said the bill also limits how much you get paid as well as how many patients you are allowed to see. I have even seen projected salaries as low as 50k a year. Any information will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Don't misunderstand me. I do want to help people. That is one of the primary reasons I chose to be a doctor instead of a lawyer. However, I have no interest of going to school for 4 years, then do another 2 year residency and spend the rest of my life to pay off my student loans. In case you guys didn't know, it costs about 200k to go to medical school. So it is wrong of me to be worried about having a good salary to pay it off?
BTW Ryan, I am democratic. Thx for your idiotic remark though.

The reform bill cant cut all doctors salaries, maybe just city and state hospital doctors. It will raise the cost of malpractice insurance that all doctors need, which I guess is a cut in salary

It's not really health care reform, it's insurance reform. It will have little to no effect on doctors' salaries.
If you're only going into medicine for the money, then do something else. The "projected salaries" you're seeing are what some GPs are ALREADY making having to struggle with insurance companies.
One of the nice things about truly nationalized single-payor health care is that malpractice insurance premiums basically go out the window. You no longer have to spend half your time fighting denials of payment or fixing coding errors. Wouldn't that be nice?

Just my opinion but, if you want to be a doctor just to make a butt load of money, please don't go to medical school. Doctors actually take an oath to help their patients. I know that's really old fashion (or "old school" as you probably think of it) but doctors are supposed to help people...not get rich. Do it because you want to, not to make a few extra bucks at the expense of the people that need your services.

Your scare tactics are not very convincing. To start with, most doctors aren't on salary. They're self employed business owners. So who would believe the rest of this nonsense?

Oh great, another "Lets rant Obama and the Dems" Question...
