More than 25 pro-patient groups including Citizen Action, AARP, Consumers Union, NYPIRG, and New York Statewide Senior Action Council announced their opposition on Thursday to Albany's proposed arbitrary caps on malpractice liability. The groups released a letter (attached below) to Albany legislators arguing that improving patient safety is a better option for lowering health care costs and closing New York's budget gap than denying the constitutional rights of victims of egregious and preventable medical mistakes.
