I would like to know if there are any websites or links that would legally tell you if a doctor has been sued for malpractice in the past. Is that made known to the public?

There's probably not a web site that is free to the public, but there are all kinds of legal data bases that you can access if you are a lawyer, or have deep pockets..
Every state has some kind of licensing board for each kind of professional allowed to practice there ... doctors, lawyers, accountants, etc. ... along with a process for keeping track of those accused of unethical practices that justify a review of whether their license should be revoked. Their records not open to the public, but are open to going thru the legal process ... good luck on figuring out how.
