I was an EMT for 12 years before becoming an RN. They put us through a physical exam which consisted of lifting and various other physical tests. If you're impaired physically, to the degree that you can not safely perform the duties of an EMT, (which include alot of lifting), you may be unable to work as an EMT. Sorry!
