It won't be easy. You can dig some articles out of a Medline search, and the lawyers probably have something similar in Lexisnexis.
US malpractice, though, is a peculiar thing. When they're studied by expert panels, it seems that by and large there's no relationship between the occurence of malpractice and whether a doctor is sued, and if he is, no relationship with whether the judgment is in his favor or the plaintiff's. Also, the amount of the judgment tends to correlate with the severity of the outcome, not whether or how much it might have been prevented.
I once had an interesting experience in this regard. I was named in a suit, as the treating physician (and later, luckily, dropped from the suit), and at the end of my deposition, one of the plaintiff's lawyers came up to me and noted that all his experts had been very complimentary of my care and charting. That sort of flattery I could do without!

I'd have to agree with the previous answer; however you'll also find that out of court settlements are not included in many of the statistics you'll find and this is where a majority of medical malpractice suits end up. Review on college websites related to law like Cornel or Prudue as they provide some information regarding legal statistics.
