my son got his front tooth chipped (nearly in half) and the school must pay for it due to negligence. I need to estimate future maintenance costs.

None. Future costs costs will be based on your son's negligence to maintain it (home care, 6 month visits, etc.).

Your son may be too young to have a porcelain crown placed if he is under 18. The tooth will then be restored with a bonded composite filling (life span of around 5 years) and then when he is old enough, the porcelain crown made.. Also try to calculate for inflation based on today's costs. Good luck

If he is under 18, he is still too young for a crown so factor in:

a composite filling (which may or may not last until he's 18 so allow for the possibility of having to re-do it)

possible root canal if there was damage to the nerve due to the trauma

and with the crown, they may need a post and core inserted to build up the tooth before putting the crown on.
