If a parent were to sue for medical malpractice on behalf of a minor, would the parent also be entitled to sue for mental anguish on behalf of themselves?

yes and no. You can try to sue for whatever you want. but in reality, you will only get monetary compensation for what happened to the minor child. You could get money for compensatory damages, and punitive damages. You could get money for actual injuries to the child, pain and suffering, but the court rarely looks at, or compensates the person who is filing the lawsuit, if they are not the people injured by the malpractice.

So, its probably better to just save the money and time you would have to put in to get anything more out of it.

Besides, not trying to sound mean or cross, but it clearly wasn't you that was hurt, it was the minor, so why do you need compensating, it more than likely would only be for the minor.

I understand you could have pain in the situation, but the court will probably not award you anthing for it. Hope that helped somewhat

There are a number of causes of action a parent may bring on their own behalf. A good malpractice attorney will know and include them in the complaint.
