If a parent of an injured child wants to sue her friends parents for negligent supervision, what area of law would that fall under? I'm doing some research on Lexis Nexis and Civil Law is not an option.....

Common
It is civil law. The exact court will depend on what state you're in and how many different levels they have - most civil courts are broken up by the nature of the claim and the amount of money at stake.

Negligence is a common-law tort. In the USA torts are tried in the civil courts (e.g., the trial court acting under civil rules of procedure rather than criminal procedures).

Depending upon your location, there may be several different courts available, including a municipal court, county court or state court, and the determination may depend upon factors we can't start to imagine (a local attorney will know which way the winds blow locally).
