I am wanting to join the Air Force Reserves and made the mistake of telling an adviser over the phone that i have medication for migraine headaches. they are caffeine induced and i never really take the medication. the occasional headaches that i do get are not the debilitating type. they might be uncomfortable, but by no means prevent me from going about my day. does anybody know if i have a prayer of being granted a medical waiver?
Brian
With a letter from your physician, as well as any documents associated to it will almost certainly get you a waiver. Make sure at MEPS to let the doctors know and give them your records. Good luck to you.

Tell your recruiter that you're no longer interested and break ties with him/her. Talk to ANOTHER recruiter and DON'T mention your headaches. If you're dedicated than you'll make the right choice......LIE

Migraines are usually a DQ. with the fact that the AF is overstrength they do not need to grant many waivers.
you may have a chance, but it will be a small one.

As per the Regulations- You are Disqualified (see below)
Air Force Instruction (AFI48-123V2)
A2.12.8. Migraine. Manifested by frequent disabling attacks, which last for several consecutive days, and are unrelieved by treatment.
A3.21.5. History of recurrent headaches (784.0), including, but not limited to, migraines (346) and tension headaches (307.81) that interfere with normal function in the past 3 years, or of such severity to require prescription medications, are disqualifying. NO WAIVER !
Now, you can take the advice of some of the people who answered and not tell the recruiter however what happens when the stress of Basic Training or Technical School brings on one of these headaches? What happens when you are on duty and one pops up? They will start asking questions then.
The fact is... You have documentation of your headaches because you went to a doctor. IF you would have never gone to the doctor and had never been diagnosed, then that would be a bit different.
It's really up to you what you want to do.
