You know how some people sue doctors for malpractice when they say goof up on you during surgery and leave you worse off then when you went in. Can someone actually sue someone, that's not a doctor, for giving you bad medical advice and when you followed the advice it made you get sick? Because I think the remedy I was given years ago may have cause liver damage or something because I became seriously sick afterwards and I'd never been seriously sick a day in my life other than the common cold or flu before. Seriously sick for me meaning I couldn't work outside the home afterwards and have had to have surgery, my gallbladder removed and have recently been diagnosed with debilitating IBS since then. Symptoms started not even a month after I was personally given the remedy by this person.

The problem with trying to sue someone who is NOT a doctor for basically "treating" a medical condition is that they are not qualified to do so. Therefore you could argue that its your own fault for listening to them when you knew they werent actually a medical practitioner. It might depend a bit on the circumstances eg was this a random friend or was it in a patient-professional relationship eg pharmacist?

The other issue is that you also need to be able to prove on the balance of probabilities that the advice they gave you did in fact lead to these complications. How do you really know they are the direct cause?
