My mother went to her cardiologist on August 16th and September 10th for routine visits. She's always been very health conscious, and particular about her diet. He told her that her heart was strong, and that all she needed to worry about was that she had slightly high blood pressure. He put her on a very low dosage medication. She already had a good diet, but she improved it more, and increased her workouts. He told her she could be off the medication the beginning of October.
My mother passed away on September 24th. It is believed she had a heartattack. The preliminary autopsy report says atherosclerosis (the LONG TERM build up of plaque in the arteries surrounding the heart) Her death has come as a complete and utter shock to our entire family, especially me.
Am I right in wanting answers from the cardiologist ? I'm a nursing major in college, and I think that makes me even more curious to know what happened and how this couldn't have been stopped.
NO disrespectful comments please.

This is why insurance is so expensive. This is not malpractice or negligence. Should he have run a camera into her arteries to check for buildup? Her heart sounded good, her pressure was slightly high. He medicated based on the given information.

maybe you should talk to the cardiologist about it

The average person may never see a cardiologist at all unless they have been diagnosed with some kind of heart disease or other complications. You state your mother had "routine" visits and told based on her diet, exercise, high blood pressure that she might be able to get off the medication that the doctor prescribed.
You might want to set up an appointment with the cardiologist for answers, but not sure if by privacy laws he would be allowed to discuss with you or not.
You could talk to a malpractice lawyer to determine if what happened was malpractice or negligence, or if there was nothing that the doctor did wrong at all. But to do this, the lawyer would have to get all of your mothers medical records from all her doctors to find out if this could have been prevented or not.
I am so sorry for your loss, especially more so since this was so sudden and unexpected.
