I have a friend who recently told me that her husband and her are suing the doctor who cut their child's leg during surgery which left a large permanent scar. She told me that her lawyer informed her that the case would most likely be settled out of court. I was wondering, how much money does she stand to get if she settles this case out of court? Are we talking 10,000, 50,000 or like 200,000 or higher? She did not seem to have any idea. Side note: the doctor who cut her child failed to write down any notes regarding the incident in his post surgery notes but they had a second specialist who looking at the cut a few days after it happened who did write many notes stating who the cut was cause from.

Nobody has the FOGGIEST idea without knowing the exact circumstances and the extent of the injury. For a non life threatening injury, it is very unlikely to reach $ 50,000, and the lawyer will probably take 1/3 of any settlement.

It could be 10,000, 50,000, 200,000 or higher. It's between them, their lawyer, the doctor, and his malpractice insurance to come up with an amount all parties can agree on.
