I have a letter from a chiropractor that I seen back in 2006. The letter states I have til May 19th to pay them 7030.00 for services rendered and not paid by my insurance. If not paid they will file in Small Claims Court. Obviosly I DO NOT have 7k in my back pocket or anywhere for that matter. I barly make my mortgage every month.
Why is it to that they wait till 3 years later and come with this! I cant afford a lawyer to help me fight them. HELP!

you can make a payment agreement with the courts. if you do not show up for court, your wages will be garnished. they can take up to 25% (depends on what state) out of each paycheck.
they gave you 3 years to pay it. did you think the bill would just go away?

A judgment will be rendered against you and arrangements will be made for payments.*

They waited probably because they didn't notice tell now, and for that amount i don't think it would be small claims court probably the next step up, and your credit rating goes done the hole, you could maybe go talk with the chiropractor and see if you can pay him in small amounts over a period of time but i don't think you can fight them they will win

Its best to get a hold of the doctor and tell him your situation, most of the time they will not take you to court . Make some kind of payment arrangement if you owe this bill even 5 dollars a month. Other wise they can ruin your credit.

Well i don't know about three years to pay it, thats up to the courts, but they will set up a payment plan that suits your finances. There is no timeline how long it will take you unless the courts decide that. They could only make u pay as lil as 10 bucks a month for however long it takes if that is what they decide again depending on your financial situation. Up to 3 yrs to pay, man some people should not give there guessing advice on here. That is up to the courts how long it will take, and the payment agreement.

You don't need a lawyer to defend yourself in small claims court. Matter of fact you can not hire one. Sounds like you owe it. Don't blame them for waiting 3 years, that means you had 3 years to pay and you did not.

Lots of things will happen. First a judgment will entered against you, assuming you lose in court, which you probably will. This judgment will appear on your credit history. The Dr. will most likely put a lien on all of you property, including your house. Once the lien is established he can foreclose on your home and force you to sell it to recover his judgment. Your wages can be garnisheed and your employer will than know what is going on and it never looks good! You will also be liable for all filing fees, interest and the Dr.'s attorney fees.
So the best thing is to try to work out a payment arrangement prior to going to court.
