I just jammed my fingertip in a desk drawer. It hurt a LOT, and now it just feels numb. There's a thin red line through the fingertip I jammed--but INSIDE the skin. I think it might be internal bleeding? My fingertip feels like it's swelling.
Is there anything I can do? Would ice help? Is this serious? When will it get better?
Thanks. Any advice is hugely appreciated.

I am not a doctor, but, in my opinion, you should make a cup of ice water and place your finger in it. Do not use to much ice as that would painful to your finger tip when it is jammed in among the cubes. Crushed ice would be best I would think. Anyway, cold reduces swelling. As for the "internal bleeding" that happens when you bruise yourself. The ice water should help with that also. As for the numbness, if it persists then by all means go and see a doctor. But never panic, it never helps.

I have done exactly what you have done. It is normal for it to hurt a lot then go numb, be glad! The red line is where you injured your finger. It will swell, but you can keep that to a minimum by placing your finger in bowl of ice water. 15 minutes in 15 minutes out for a couple of hours should take care of most of the swelling. Oh yeah, it will be very tender to the touch for the next week or so.
