It cracks me up when people will call their doctor on a cell phone and say that their tooth is causing them pain of 10 on a scale of 1-10. Never tell a doctor that your pain in a 10 because if it was you wouldn't be talking on the phone.

So medical people. What injury would cause 10 out of 10 pain?

well, im medical in the sense that ive had medical treatments.......

but ive never said "10"
i have had a son via cesarean and i thought that was the worst pain (i was in labor 12 hours, the c-section was emergency) but i recently had a kidney infection and i had to walk 2+ miles uphill to get to the hospital... THAT was the worst pain ive ever been in, and even then i was being logical.
if they ask you on a scale from 1-10, 10 is the worst. it cant get worse than that... so its never a 10. most people are dumb and dont realize that. it can ALWAYS get worse.

The ONLY time I said I was in a 10 amount of pain was after brain surgery, when the morphine was not working to the point that I could not move, actually realized that you had to move your body to breathe, was completely paralyzed. They took out the back of my skull and C1 and C2 and four hours after I was awake and in NCCU, a Dr. came by and through clenched teeth, and not moving a muscle I said 10. They immediately changed me to Fentenyl. I went down to an 8. I NEVER say 10, even if the pain is such that I can't open my eyes, as I have a head/neck injury, but I know a 10 and if I an able to walk, talk in any manner and breathe, it is NOT a 10!

A third degree burn. A persons threshold of pain can vary with the trauma. I've had a severe head injury involving 38 stitches a skull fracture, concussion, cracked upper jaw, broken lower jaw, five missing teeth and the thing that hurt the most at that time was a quarter sized third degree burn on my right shoulder.

You obviously have never had a severely abscessed tooth.......it's an incredible pain.

I've broken bones, lived with Rheumatoid Arthritis and have to say that an abscessed tooth can beat them both on the level of pain.

My "lovely husband", ( he's dead now, and, no, I didn't kill him off, as much as I would have maybe liked to on several occasions), disclocated and broke my shoulder! The pain was that intense I passed out, and even when I came round, it made me sick. Some kind of survival instinct or something must have kicked in because I phoned an ambulance, although I have no recollection of it, but, even whilst being administered morphine, when the hospital staff had to move me, I still screamed with the pain.

I think the worst pain to suffer from is earache and toothache and would not personally wish them on my worst enemy; I've also had a baby, and to any man out there, it is no Sunday afternoon picnic - like trying to push a marrow through a straw!, but no, I would not rate those as a '10' on the 1 - 10 pain scale.

Everybody has a different level of pain tolerance, and what is minor to one person is major to another and vice versa. Personally, I would not call my doctor out unless it was a real emergency or it was evident that myself, (and I would know if I was in severe pain or not; I'm not a coward either), or someone in my household was very ill or clearly in considerable pain. I have no time for people who do either!

P.s. My shoulder was put back, but a bit of bone had broken off, so I now have nerve damage, muscle wastage and arthritus in my right hand and arm - I'm always in "pain" and start the day off with 4 prescribed strong painkillers and take another 4 different ones and 2 more strong ones during the course of the day. Arthritus in my neck and spine ain't to clever either, but, as for putting it on a scale, I couldn't be bothered to think about it. I live with it and that's that. Like any other sufferer I suppose, I have good days, bad days and bloody awful days. I make the best of the good days and put up with the bad days (especially in wet/damp/cold weather) as I have no choice. What's the point of moaning about it either, it don't make me feel any better, it just makes me pissed off. I don't need to tell my partner when I'm having a "bad" day or night either, as he can see it on my face and in the way I walk. No-one likes pain; well, apart from the strange few, I suppose but there are alot out there who are worse off than I am, and I feel for them, but are grateful also that I'm not one of them and hope I never am!

A kidney stone is said to be a 10 out of 10 on the pain scale.

Dejerine Roussy, often referred to simply as Thalamic disorder. Basically a syndrome in which damage to the brain causes sensations of pain that come from the brain itself.

The pain may be very intense and may never go away, it depends on the severity of the condition. In its worst form it can render a person bedridden with pain unless very large doses of narcotics are administered around the clock.
