I want to be a doctor for so long, but I think I don't have the grades and intelligence to get accepted in med school.
Now, I'm thinking about all the medical professions out there, yet I can't find any medical jobs that actually make me happy. I know people advise me to look deeper, but I can't imagine myself doing anything else beside being a doctor. Worse, I hear so many comments about how becoming a doctor is a waste of time and money because the tough career outweighs the benefits. PLus, the malpractice and insurance make things worse..
What should I do? I'm confused..I don't know what to do with my life anymore...please help...I thought I knew what I would do with my life when I graduated from highschool..becoming a doctor was my ambition..
I have my own reason for becoming a doctor, but I'm afraid there are many sacrifices..I'm lost and confused..I dont know what to do with my life..
I'm 19 yrs old..

Here's an idea...go to college and start taking some general classes--not anything specific to the medical field. Join the Air Force ROTC unit at a university, and after your first year, apply for a scholarship. You will get 3/4ths of your college paid for, and if your grades are good enough, you can go on to medical school after graduation. You will have a full time job as a respected Air Force officer, you will have the opportunity to become a doctor, you will never have to worry about insurance or malpractice (since the Air Force covers these things for our doctors), and you will get to travel the world earning fantastic pay, and fulfilling a mission 10x more satisfying than being a doctor in any practice or hospital outside the military could ever promise. Good luck to you.
and P.S. Don't listen to the unemployed chick who said not to go into the military...she's mad at the world since she lives in a referigerator box.

Like you said "It's YOUR ambition." It takes 8 years to become a doctor. If you don't start now... where will you be in those 8 years? You need to do what's best for you. Listening to the opinion of everyone else is not your future because your future determines all together on your actions.
Become a doctor, they make BIG BUCKS! Registered Nurses (RN) are making tons of money right now, and the field is in need of people like you! If you become a doctor think of how happy it will make you because it IS your ambition and you will be doing something for yourself. At first you might be in a financial hole through schooling but when you get out it's going to be a piece of cake.
You do know what you want to do with your life. That's not the problem here. Your problem is, is that your listening to those around you, instead of listening to yourself. If you put your heart into becoming a doctor, and taking the steps to get there without stooping to a low level. You will get there and be very successful.
Oh... and don't listen to the guy trying to get you into military... god help you if you go into that. Go to a community college to start with and you'll work your way up just fine without military.

if u dont have the intelligence for a doctor, but want a carreer like that, i suggest the next step down, mabey a pharmacist, or possibly just be a surgical nurse (they help assist surgerys, still high pay) or, if yur looking for a way to get into college, mabey go to national guard, army, or coast guard, that pays for college and gives u niec support on a resume
hope this helps =)

i know the pressure youre going through, but just think...you're only 19! you're only about 1/4 of the way through your life. dont take others peoples words for granted. there are so many different opinions out there, just try to take them with a grain of salt, live, and learn. everything in life worthwhile is worth fighting for and that means sacrifice, you'll miss out on a lot if you take the easy way out. try med school, take an internship at a hospital, and if you decide the medical career isnt for you, go back to school! you have so much more time to figure out what you want to do with your life, try different things and explore. who says life needs to be figured out when you're only 19? life is continually changing and taking us new places, so let it. good luck with whatever path you choose!

You should definitely be thinking about what to do with your life but> I think that you are stressing out way too much. Volunteer at a hospital this summer or in a Dr. office to see if anything sticks out. You also have at least until your Jr. year in college to start thinking of what you want to do with your life. Yes, it is stressful being a Dr. but no doubt it is well worth it. IF your desire is to help people, then being a Dr. is for you. IF you are only looking to be a Dr. for the money, then you need to look elsewhere. Just breathe and look around, there are so many things that you can do with your life. If you are worried about your grades, then when you go to college,(even Jr. college) you need to work really hard to bring them up. You are the author of your destiny, go and make your life great. Good Luck!!!!

It's not uncommon to be confused with life and career choices at 19.
Try applying to med schools. Grades aren't everything. Good schools will also look at your extracurricular activities, jobs, volunteering and hobbies. If they do all turn you down, ask why and then work to fix that. You can take classes at a community college to get a better grades. Get a job at a local hospital or doctor's office (they do hire people without degrees, just not as surgeons! :-) ). Make an effort and then apply again the next year.
Don't let other people tell you what you want. Listen to yourself. If you really want to be a doctor, You Can Do It. Don't give up.
