My boyfriend wants to become a police officer. He has a mild case of cerebral palsy and some breathing problems. I am just wondering if there are any medical restrictions to become a police officer? And also, what kind of training will he have to go through after college?
Any sites with this info would be appreciated.

Each organization has its own requirements, but the short answer is yes, there are medical restrictions. I suggest you either contact your local PD or google "(your state) police academy"

Can he run (either now or with training) at least 5 miles? Can he hold a pistol and be steady? Can he do push ups, sit ups, and drills with at least average anguish?

Because of CP's broad encompass, it's hard to say without you going into specifics, but things don't look good if he can't do the above. If there's any sort of noticeable distress along with his condition, I sincerely doubt he has strong chances of passing the academy.

Like this "Rick" fellow said, it really all comes down to whether the applicant can perform the prescribed duties, like pull ups, sit ups, etc. Just having a condition cannot disqualify you as medical records are sealed and police interviews may not ask you about them or for them.

There are medical conditions that can disqualify candidates. Often times it depends on the severity of the condition. Restrictions vary depending on the state and/or department. Police training requires a lot of learning in a relatively short amount of time. It can be very challenging both mentally and physically. Visit the websites of some police training academies. You will be able to find some good information about training curriculum. Check out http://www.peaceofficerjobs.com for excellent information and advice about becoming a police officer.
