I was in a car accident recently and at first I didn't think I was a injured until later that evening. I had my roommate take me the ER where they said there was no fracture, and the next day my family doctor said it was a lumbar sprain. But the pain has been getting worse and there have been other embarassing symptoms starting to occur.
Is this normal for a lumbar sprain or could it be more severe?

It can increase if you don't take proper care of it. You may be straining yourself too much. And yes, it could be something else. You may want to get a second opinion.

Very typical of a lumbar spraine, it gets worse before getting better. You really need to have either a CT or MRI done to adequately assess the damage, then go to physical therapy for about 3 months till you build the muscle back up.

OH YES!! I am not only a student nurse but I have had lower lumbar surgery- I had an L4-L5 disk to expand and I hurt for months without going to a doctor cuz I was so busy in school..I then went to a chiropractor. BIG MISTAKE. I ended up hurting so bad and then one day my legs went numb from the knees down. It took me forever to get real good care. Every doctor I went to see in the E.R didnt have a clue what they were talking about. It can affect your bowels or bladder. DO THIS: go to a search engine and type in CAUDA EQUINA. This is a set of nerve roots that the lower lumbar can affect. Read about it. QUICK..a Neurologist is who you need to see...or the damage could be irreversible
