Medical Malpractice?

Where can I find out information regarding any medical malpractice lawsuits filed against a plastic surgeon? I have a consultation with one coming up and I googled him, and there are a couple of people who had negative things to say about his work. However, I don't want to rely solely on those two people's experiences. I want to see if there has been any litigations against him and if so how many. Of course I am seriously re-thinking going to the consult. More likely than not I will find another doctor. But I want to make an informed decision......

I am not sure where to look up any malpractice info on a physician, but I can tell you that you are with in your rights to ask to speak to a couple of their patients.. Ones that have had a similar procedure that you are looking into.

I would start by checking out your state's Board of Medicine website or any medical specialty board sites in your state.

Most (but not all) states require the posting of any complaints to the professions board as a part of public record.

Most attorneys will file a complaint with the state board as a first action in a malpractice suit, so you can start there.

If its not online - call your state medical board and inquire specifically if this doctor has had any complaints lodged in the last 5 years, if so what they were and what was the outcome of the investigation .....

Public record is a more unbiased form of information than the positive or negative opinions of a couple former patients. If you ask him to refer you to other patient's for info, do you REALLY think he's going to pick someone who is dissatisfied with his work?

What do you think? Answer below!
